CASE 1: ELECTRIC ENERGY SAVING IN INDUSTRIAL LIGHTING

Lighting project in order to make consumption efficient and obtaining a lux level to a 300 lx-working plan level.

By an ESCO-type scheme a project was conducted, and consisted in:

  • Open translucent sheets on the roofs of the warehouse to take advantage of natural day lighting. The effect of this eliminated the need for lighting lamps during the day.
  • Existing bells that had HID-400 type and compact fluorescent lamps were replaced. A total of 180 fixtures in 4X54W and 6X54W T5-HO fluorescent type were installed.
  • A control system by motion sensors was installed that increased savings in an additional 10% in areas of storehouses and of lower lighting requirements.

This generated the following savings:

  • Savings in annual electricity consumption of 415,013 kWhr.
  • Savings of 1.77% of the total annual consumption and 67.5% on lighting.
  • Compliance of NOM-STP-025-2008.

CASE 2: Performance Contract For Power Factor Correction In An Automotive Sector Plant

French company supplier of the automotive industry increased its production capacity installed, to direct detriment of the power factor.

By an ESCO-type scheme, said project was conducted, consisting in:

  • During the project, the need to install three capacitor banks with detuned filters to raise the power factor from 78 to 97 was identified.
  • The company had a monthly penalty of $80,000, with approximately 9% of its electric invoice.
  • The proposed solution was an ESCO scheme under a performance contract which ensured that the equipment would avoid penalty by CFE, otherwise, ARTECHE would take care of it. The customer would pay 100% of the savings obtained seeking to reduce the term of the project.
  • In financial run using historical consumption data was defined, and demand of the company that the equipment would generate the following savings:

 

  • Savings for removing low power factor fine and monthly bonus of $110,000.
  • Project duration was 12 months, during which a higher power factor of 97% was maintained.
  • Considering 5 years on a 12% rate in Net Present Value exceeds 5 Million Pesos for the client.

 

 

CASE 3: Esco Project To Make Energy Use Efficient In A Commercial Mall

 

A mall that started their campaign to reduce energy consumption since early 2010. The will to reduce energy costs and CO2 emissions existed. Also sought to keep their facilities in good conditions.

By an ESCO-type scheme, said project was conducted, consisting in:

  • Energy efficiency contract (Energy performance contract) ensuring 10% of economic savings to the client over the electric energy invoice.
  • Duration of contract: 5 years (started in August 2011).
  • Facility improvements:
  1. Re-engineering and modification of hydraulic system of production and distribution of chilled water.
  2. Automation of the air conditioning system (BMS Installation)
  3. Lighting Retrofit (inside, outside, and parking)
  4. Placement of motion sensors in strategic areas.

The aforementioned generated the following savings:

  • The following benefits and savings were obtained:
  • Average savings of electric energy of 25% (> 1,300,000 kWh from the beginning of the contract).
  • Reduction of average energy costs of 15% (≈$2,000,000 Pesos from the beginning of the contract).
  • Avoided emissions of 330 Ton CO2.
  • New investments carried out to increase mall competitiveness (thanks to operational savings).
  • Modernization of technical installations.

 

 

CASE 4: ESCO PROJECT TO MAKE ENERGY USE EFFICIENT IN A COMMERCIAL MALL

 

This customer is always concerned to keep their facilities in optimal condition and looking for new technologies. Due to the 2009 economic crisis and to the process of continuous improvement, one of the demands of this group was to seek economic optimizations in different areas (e. g.: energy invoice).

By an ESCO-type scheme, said project was conducted, consisting in:

  • Energy efficiency contract (Energy performance contract) ensuring a 4% of economic savings over the electric energy invoice to the client.
  • Duration of the contract: 5 years (started in May 2010).
  • Investment in automation and facility modernization (photovoltaic panels, air conditioning re-engineering, re-lamping, circuit sectioning).
  • Information campaigns and diffusion performance to users of the property.

 

The aforementioned generated the following savings:

  • Average power savings of 24% (>700,000 kWh/year).
  • Reduction of energy costs, average of 11% ($500,000 Pesos/year).
  • Modernization of technical installations (new equipment will be property of the client at the end of the contract).
